School of Engineering and Materials Science
The School of Engineering and Materials Science (SEMS) has a well established track record in bioengineering research dating back many years and including hosting the Interdisciplinary Research Centre (IRC) in Biomedical Materials. Currently, Bioengineering research within SEMS covers all research themes within the Institute of Bioengineering. The school has recently undergone a major laboratory refurbishment and now provides state of the art experimental facilities including: a clinical gait assessment lab, cell and tissue culture labs, mechanical testing equipment, molecular biology lab, confocal and super resolution microscopy, mechanobiology bioreactors, a biofluids lab and a hip wear simulator. In addition SEMS has powerful computational facilities for solid and fluid mechanics modelling.
