Research Interests

Hazel Screen joined QMUL to do her PhD in 1999, and having begun a lectureship post in 2004, is now a Reader in Biomedical Engineering. She is also the Deputy Director for Taught Programmes, a role with a focus on ensuring our students have the best possible university experience. She is a member of the Institute of Bioengineering (www.bioengineering.qmul.ac.uk) and a member of the Biomedical Engineering and Materials research group within the School of Engineering and Materials Science.
Dr Screen is also a Chartered Engineer and an active member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, involved in the North West London IMechE committee. Alongside her research interest in tissue structure-function, she is very interested in supporting student learning, and is currently holding a Drapers Teaching Fellowship at QMUL (www.learninginstitute.qmul.ac.uk/lta/reward-and-recognition/drapers-teaching-fellows/).
In her spare time, Dr Screen enjoys sports (particularly running) and also scuba diving and hiking. She has been fortunate to visit and dive some great locations around the world with her family, including Hawaii, Borneo, Thailand and The Caribbean.
