Biosensing, Diagnostics, Imaging

A key requirement in Bioengineering is a capability for selective and location specific monitoring of biochemical and biophysical events  Sensing technologies offer an optimum means of achieving this. The IoB has a broad platform of optical and electrochemical transducer systems and devices, variously able to respond to physical, physicochemical and chemical change. Biomolecule modified sensors, biosensors, have been established for a range of parameters. Research contributing to the work includes biomaterials, membrane technology and surface chemistry. Development of operational systems has been augmented through electronic and design engineering as well as through use of systems architectures and modelling. The approach complements imaging techniques aimed at a more comprehensive understanding of structure-function interrelationships.
